what you should bring on the boat

Get your fishing license first

What license you need:

Anyone above the age of 16 will need to obtain the Lake Texhoma license. This covers you for all Texhoma waters in both Texas and Oklahoma. Click on the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation image to the left to be guided to where you can obtain the required license.

Dress for the weather conditions

  •  Summertime on Texoma can be extremely hot. Loose-fitting, lightweight clothing that keeps the sun off the skin is preferred. A hat and sunglasses will also be helpful additions. Don't forget the sunscreen. The glare of the water can intensify the sun's rays, and if you have exposed skin, you will burn.
  •  Rain Gear: We will fish in the rain. Striper fishing can be at its best in foul weather. If a chance of rain or windy conditions is in the forecast for your trip, a lightweight rain suit will be helpful to keep you dry from the rain or water spray.
  • Cooler/winter weather. When the water cools off on Lake Texoma, Striper fishing heats up! To take advantage of these cooler temperatures, dress in layers. Start with a thin layer of wool or fleece next to the skin and layer out with thicker insulating layers. Add an outer shell with a wind/waterproof layer for maximum comfort.
  • Be sure to protect your feet. Your feet can burn in the summer and freeze in the winter, making an otherwise enjoyable trip miserable. Wear lightweight, breathable shoes in the summer and insulated waterproof shoes or boots in the winter.
  • Gloves are another great idea to keep your hands comfortable when it's cool outside.
  • Ensure the little ones(under 13) have a Coast Guard-approved life preserver that fits them correctly. They must wear it at all times while on the boat.

Food and drinks

You may bring your own small ice chest on the boat with whatever you would like to make your trip more enjoyable for you. Please keep the size of ice chest small to conserve space on the boat. Alcoholic beverages are allowed but please be responsible when you drink.

Motion sickness or sea sickness

Lake Texoma can produce some very rough conditions at times so be prepared. If you know you are prone to motion sickness or have never been on a large body of water. There are several over the counter motion sickness medications available that may make your trip more enjoyable.
